A large wooden door was set in the circular stone wall before them. Wally craned his neck upwards to try and gauge the towers height, but the tree cover and low morning fog obscured the true height of the tower.
CRASH
A loud noise had interrupted his observations, he looked down to see his Knight sprawled out on the floor and rushed to help him up. As he entered, the doorway behind him disappeared, becoming the same stone as the rest of the wall.
Sir Kristan had charged at the door, shoulder first but the door wasn't even locked, leading him to hurtle through and smash through the small wooden table behind it.
"Looks like we're stuck in here now boy" Sir Kristan remarked, noticing the absent door. The two looked around the room, trying to find any sort of exit in the circular stone wall that surrounded them but found none.
Wally spied a note amidst the clutter.
"Read it boy, I bet it's some mage tricks designed to mess with us" Sir Kristan ordered, flexing his shoulders.
"Welcome to my tower, adventurers. You've only been here 2 seconds and already broke my table..."
Sir Kristan snorted "See they set up the table to break as we entered"
"... I'll have to magic up a new one. Before you lies a series of challenges, survive and you may claim the prize at the apex of this tower. I'm glad one of you can read, Good luck"
The paper sensing it's purpose was complete, burned up with a purple flame which didn't scorch Wally's hand in the slightest.
"Pfft, that mage doesn't know what they're talking about, of course, we can both read." Sir Kristan boasted.
That was actually true
Wally thought to himself, slightly surprised, he had seen himself the knight read before. His privileged upbringing had taught him that at least.
But why would the note lie about it. Maybe Sir Kristan's experience was right and this mage's tricks were nothing but smoke and mirrors.
An exit materialised in the wall in front of them, a stone staircase leading upwards. Above it, markings appeared in the wall.
"Right, let's go boy" Sir Kristan ordered proceeding towards the exit.
