Time ticked on and before Jon knew it, the bell was ringing for lunch. He quickly packed his books away and left the library. He made his was back to the canteen where he found Karyn already seated at on of the tables ticking into one of the packed lunches his mom had made them. She was also hunched over a notepad, scribbling away at something. As he approached she looked up at him.
“Hey Jon!” She said through a mouthful of food.
“Hey Karyn, how’s your morning been?” He asked.
“Fine” she shrugged, “got told off for doodling during math though” she added, her mouth still full of food.
“Karyn!” Jon tutted, “you should be paying attention in class!” He added.
“I know, I just drew a really good Spider-Man. Wanna see?” She replied, spraying sandwich crumbs over the table, as she pulled out her notebook. There on the front page was a rather crude drawing that could look like Spider-Man with a bit of imagination. Jon smiled weakly.
“That is pretty good” he lied, she was normally pretty good at drawing, but it seemed like she’d really rushed this.
“Fanks” she said through another spray of crumbs.
“Don’t talk with your mouth full swee….” Jon trailed off, realising what he was about to say, he looked at her to see if she noticed, but she carried on munching her food and doodling in her notebook.
Sarah was sat on the bleachers by the football pitch. She managed to avoid her usual crowd and found a place she could be alone for a moment. She was typing away on her phone, searching for something on the internet.
“Knight and Madison” she muttered as she typed the names in. Her eyes opened wide when she saw the results on the screen.
“Wow! I wasn’t expecting that!” She gasped as she opened the first page after glancing around to make sure nobody could see what she was looking at.
“Come and play with us Mikey” Benny shouted over to his friend. They were playing some pointless chasing game. Mikey was sat to the side watching with his arms folded. Normally he’d be right in the fray, chasing down those that weren’t It, or running at top speed away from those that were. Now he couldn’t see the point in such a stupid game. He rolled his eyes and looked away. Benny ran over and pulled on his sleeve.
“Cmon Mikey!” He pleaded.
“I don’t want to” Mikey snapped back, feeling annoyed.
“Cmon! Please!”
“Just fuck off Benny!” Mikey snapped.
“Mr Gibson!” He heard stern voice from behind, “in my classroom, like, Now!” Mr Andrews continued.
Lydia and Max we’re hitting it off really well, they had discussed nearly everything about their current condition, and laughed at how well Buster and Penny seemed to be getting along, when all they were doing was sitting in front of the tv that had been left on, occasionally grumbling or growling to each other.
“Your so lucky to have a garden like that” Max said looking outside, “when I have to go to the bathroom I have to sneak down to the alley behind my building and pray nobody sees me” he added a little embarrassed.
“We’ll, it’s there if you need to go right now” Lydia chuckled, “maybe you could stop by tomorrow? I doubt anything is going to change” she added. Max smiled at her.
“Maybe I will” he added with a wink. The doorbell rang, causing both of them to yell in surprise.
“DOOR!” Max shouted
“ON IT!” Lydia matched his volume as she leapt to her feet.
Across town, Laura and Lucy were just sitting down at a table in small restaurant.
“God I feel like it’s been years!” Lucy muttered as the waiter brought over the menu.
“Same” Laura smiled, “its such a shame we drifted apart, but you had your thing and I had mine” she added.
“Can I get you ladies anything to drink?” The waiter asked, “some wine perhaps?” Both of them studied the drinks menu for a moment, then almost simultaneously replied,
“I’ll try a beer actually”
