Jon and Karyn continued watching as the couple swapped legs right in front of them. They didn't freak out, but they did rush out of the mall pretty quickly.
"I guess you did one-up me, Jon," Karyn whispered. "Now it's my turn. But first, I want some candy." Karyn started walking toward the candy store, rummaging through her purse for her wallet. She stopped in her tracks, and pulled out a leatherbound book.
Jon caught up with her, and they studied the book she found. It looked ancient, although it was quite clearly written mostly in English. It was quite clearly a spellbook. Flipping through, they read the descriptions of some of the spells. Body swaps, something called characteristic manipulation, and a fitting spell were the first few things they saw.
Jon looked worried. "There's a lot of power here, Karyn. Now there are two things we have to make sure don't fall into the wrong hands."
"You're right," Karyn replied. "But at least we know how all these things were happening. I wish we'd destroyed this book before we came back to the present." Karyn didn't realize she had the stone in her hand when she spoke, and the spellbook vanished.
"Whoops," she said. "We got lucky with that one." She shrugged and headed for the candy store.
