Not too far from Jon, in a room few people noticed at the McMillan mansion, Mollie Giraud was tidying up what passed for her wardrobe—with the same attention to detail she gave the rest of the place.
Mollie had been the McMillans' live-in maid for two years since she moved from France. She had been glad for the opportunity to get away, but she had been left alone, isolated, and vulnerable in her new role in life. At least the place needed a lot of cleaning...but their daughter, Sarah, was kinda rude. Sarah grated on Mollie's nerves.
In a drawer, she found something. It was a small red box that looked like it once housed a piece of jewelry. Inside was a small rock and a note. To her shock, the note was entirely in French.
"A wishing stone!?" she said, hoping nobody would hear her. Her mind raced with thoughts. What was she going to do with this thing?
