Once Karyn got inside her room, she got another shock. But considering what she had seen so far, she almost expected it.
Her entire room was pink, with maybe a little purple thrown in. Posters of boy bands and pop stars filled her walls. Stuffed animals filled her bed. And a large vanity held a bunch of make-up that wasn't there before.
She slowly walked in and closed the door. This was her room. All the furniture (while looking slightly different) was placed in the same locations as before. And the dimensions of the room were the same. The window was directly across from the door and slightly to the right, and the closet was on the wall to the left. But it felt like a stranger's room. It felt like she was trespassing.
She sat on the bed and took off her schoolbag. She hadn't even looked at it until now. It was obviously not the same one she had that morning. She opened it and took out her books. Hopefully there was something inside that remained normal. She pulled out a Trigonometry book (well, that remained the same, at least). Then she pulled out a Home Ec book. She wasn't taking Home Ec. And there were a couple of other "new" books, as well. She couldn't find her Physics book. Apparently, she wasn't taking a science class. There were only three required science classes (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) and two optional ones (Geology and Human Anatomy), and Karyn was a Junior and still had one more year to go, so maybe she'd take Physics next year.
She dug through the rest of the schoolbag and found a small notebook. She opened it and saw that it was a weekly planner with a bunch of things scribbled into the daily boxes, all in purple ink. One thing that grabbed her attention was the phrase CHEERLEADING PRACTICE. It was probably the most used phrase in the entire notebook. According to the planner, the next practice was the next day after school. Inside the Friday box of that week was the phrase BIG GAME. Karyn never really paid much attention to the school's sports events. She and Jon kind of lived in a different world. But she did know that that Friday was the big game. And now since she was a cheerleader, she'd have to attend it.
She suddenly felt a little queasy. All of this reality was suddenly hitting her. But it wasn't everything she had seen so far that pushed her over the edge. It was the last thing she pulled out of the school bag.
It was plastic bag with a label in black marker handwriting: LOSER DISGUISE. Inside the bag was a pink halter top, white pleated miniskirt, and pink 3-inch heels. From what Sarah had said, Karyn was apparently trying to play some sort of a prank on Jon, to make him think she dropped out of the popular crowd to become his friend. And the clothes she was wearing right now were a disguise. A loser disguise. She must have changed out of her "normal" clothes and put on the "loser" clothes, then put her "normal" clothes in the bag.
Whatever Sarah and Chris thought was going on really was going on. That wish she made must have changed reality way more than she thought. It changed her entire life. Having bigger breasts and blond hair must have allowed her to change her social status, becoming part of the popular crowd. Maybe she wanted it that way, maybe she didn't. But at the moment, this was reality. Unless she changed it.
The wishing stone created this reality. Perhaps it could change it back. She only wished for larger breasts and blond hair. Not all of this. This was all just a side-effect. Just like with the blue branch, she could tweak reality without contradicting her wish - get it back to normal as much as possible.
She had to call Jon.
