"Hey," a boy's voice suddenly said. Karyn and Sarah turned and saw Chris Morgan, a jock. He walked over and put his arm around Karyn, who looked at the boy with surprise. "So, how's the prank going, baby?"
Karyn wiggled away from the jock boy and looked from Sarah to Chris, then back to Sarah again. "What's going on? Why are you treating me like this? Is this some sort of joke that you're playing on me? Because it's not funny."
"Karyn, what the hell is wrong with you? We're not Jon. You can stop pretending to be a loser now."
"I'm not a loser, Sarah!" She hated it when all the popular girls and guys called her that.
"Of course not. You're one of the most popular girls in school."
"What?" Karyn asked, astonished. Sarah really seemed to be genuine about it. She wouldn't just say that to someone like Karyn.
Sarah walked towards her and put her arm around her, then guided her back towards Chris. "I think maybe you're getting a little too immersed in this part. You need to take a step back and think about who you are."
Karyn pushed herself away from Sarah. "I know who I am. I'm Karyn Black and I'm not your friend." Then she ran away, as fast as she could, all the way to her house.
Sarah and Chris exchanged confused and worried looks.
