8:50am Sammy's English Classroom
"Finally..." Sammy thought as she sat down in her chair. She had just finished handing out pop-quizzes to her students, and had been aching for the chance to sit down and give her legs a rest. As her eyes scanned the quiet classroom Sammy grabbed her almost empty over-sized bubba travel mug and took a drink of her sweet and sugary coffee concoction. "Good god that's good!" Sammy thought sitting the travel mug back on her desk and enjoying the lingering sugary sweetness in her mouth. Sammy's eyes glanced up at the clock on the wall as the second hand raced past the number 12. "Hurry up!... I really need to go..." The coffee that Sammy had been chugging throughout her first period was finally catching up to her and she really needed to make a trip to the restroom.
9:00am Stephen's Government Classroom
"Alright class dismissed." Stephen announced as a bell chimed over the school PA system. His student's quickly gathered up their stuff and funneled out of the classroom. As the last couple students made their way out of the classroom, Stephen followed them out into the hall. Taking his normal spot next to his classroom door, Stephen's eyes scanned his side of the hallway to make sure no students were acting up. The sound of rapid shuffling caught Stephen's ears and he looked over to see Sammy hurrying towards the teacher's lounge. Stephen knew exactly what was going on, since it was basically a daily ritual at this point. Sammy had chugged her coffee all through her first period and now urgently needed to use the restroom. Stephen just shook his head and continued to keep watch on his side of the hallway and Sammy's side of the hallway.
A few minutes later the second bell chimed announcing the start of the 2nd period. The few students who remained in the hallway near their lockers hurried off to their next class. As silence began to descended onto the hallway the sounds of shuffling feet could once again be heard. Rounding a corner Stephen watched as Sammy hurried down the hallway towards her classroom.
Seeing Stephen standing their waiting for her always irked Sammy. "One time while I'm using the restroom there's a fight and now he lords it over me." She thought as she hurried her heavy body down the hallway. Now only one classroom away from her own Sammy suddenly remembered that she hadn't wished Stephen a good morning. "Damn it, I always do that... Then again, I never get in late..." She thought as she approached her classroom. "Gooooood Morning!" Sammy announced in a cheerful tone that was undercut by the smug smile on her face. Stephen sighed and headed back into his classroom.
Back at the start of the semester Sammy had got in the habit of wishing Stephen a good morning, but as her opinion of Stephen cratered over the course of the year so did the sincerity of her greeting. At this point Sammy's good morning greeting was just a patronizing daily fuck you to Stephen....
"That was weird... Wasn't it?" Stephen thought as he pulled up the PowerPoint for today's lecture. Something about Sammy wishing him a good morning seemed odd, but then again he could remember her doing it every morning. "Maybe I'm just having a brain fart..." Stephen though as he got up from his desk and began his lecture.
