Denise Black knew the stone had affected her, caused her attitude and behaviour to change, but she couldn't seem to make herself care too much. It was as if all the aggression she'd felt a few moments earlier had evaporated. She was sure that this would have far reaching consequences in her life, but she was also sure that it would work itself out in the end.
Now she concentrated on where she was. She was standing in corner of what she was pretty sure was Jon's bedroom while he and Karyn argued. He had told her to follow him upstairs after she'd helped him to his feet, and she easility complied. The feeling she'd received from helping her daughter's friend Jon to his feet had made her feel brand new, and that feeling was echoed when she followed him upstairs. It was as if obeying Jon made her feel better.
Denise guessed the opposite of aggressive was submissive, and she figured that her aggression toward Jon had been swapped with it's opposite feeling. And to the degree she had felt it, too. Before the wish she had been ready to rip Jon's head off. She wasn't going to take any shit from him. Now, it seems, she was.
"Well what the hell are you going to do about her, then?" Karyn was very concerned about what had happened. What a sweet girl, Denise thought. She loved her daughter very much and was proud of the fact that she was trying to look after her.
"I don't know," Jon was getting annoyed, she could tell from his tone, "Why don't we ask her?"
Jon turned to her and took a breath to calm down.
"Mrs. Black, I'm sorry about the wish. How would you like me to fix it?"
Denise was surprised he would ask. "Oh, I'm sure whatever you come up with would be fine with me, sir."
The sir had come out of nowhere, but it sent a thrill through her. Yes, she thought, that was a good name to call Jon. He did, after all, deserve a certain amount of respect.
Karyn smacked her friend on his shoulder. "See? She's calling you 'sir' now!"
Denise smiled that her daughter had picked up on it. She always was so smart. Another wave of pride washed over her. She hoped that she wouldn't be too upset when she learned that her parents would be splitting up. They'd have to, after all, since Denise couldn't be expected to properly submit to Jon if she had to go home to a husband every night.
That just wouldn't be proper.
