"I wish you would stop being so aggressive!"
The rock flashed and he stumbled backward, landing on his back. As he looked up at Karyn's mother standing over him, he noticed her expression had changed. Instead of the furious look it was more of a curious look.
"That's strange," she said, seemingly to herself, "I know I should be grabbing for the stone, but I can't make myself do it. It must be the wish you just said,"
"Urg," Jon said, his usual eloquence before Karyn's mother showing.
"I remember being angry, I remember pushing you, but now I can't seem to make myself take action against you at all..." her voice trailed off.
Karyn peeked her head around her mother's back and looked at Jon. He was still lying on the ground, a mixture of shock and fear on his face.
"Are you alright, Jon?" his friend asked.
"Yeah, can you help me up?"
Before Karyn could reach for him, her mother responded, "Oh, of course!" She bent over, took his arms and pulled him to his feet, ignoring the wishing rock in his hand. A satisfied sigh escaped her lips and a blush entered her cheeks as he thanked her and dusted himself off. Something was up with this woman, but he couldn't figure out what it was.
