He needed to do something. "I wish that an opportunity would come up for me to see what the other Jon's life is like at home."
The phone suddenly rang. He picked up. "Hey, Janelle," he heard his own voice say. "Karyn is really mad at you. Why'd you ditch us at the mall for a cheerleader?"
"I wasn't the one ignoring my best friend. I didn't want to be a third wheel."
"We weren't ignoring you. We were talking for a bit. But Pete and Tim and the others were there. And you missed what happened when everyone finally showed up. Look, I hate it it that I might have caused a fight between you. Can you come over to my house after school tomorrow? I'll invite Karyn over, and we'll sort this out."
He smiled. "Sure...Jon," he said, in Janelle's friendliest voice. It might have been part of the wish or just in his head, but he found it easy when he needed to to adopt a more Janelle-like positive attitude. "I'll see you then."
"Janelle, we're still friends, right?"
"I'm not mad at either of you," Jon lied. In reality, he was a little bit.
