Waking up Jon felt different than he, almost as if he weighed lighter than he did yesterday. Chalking it up to his imagination he jumped out of bed and began heading for the shower. As he began to take his shirt off however he stopped as it caught on something on his...back? Reaching behind he carefully touched what was catching his shirt and as his fingers found the small, oval-shaped piece of metal his hand stopped dead as he began to trace the source of the metal, tracing the small metal line down his spine until he was unable to reach it any further. Carefully pulling the metal piece loose from his shirt he ripped the shirt off quickly, turning his back to the full length mirror on the door. Within the corner of his vision he could see what looked to be a narrow zipper line with a pull at the top where his spine should be. Looking closer he could also see several strange bumps on the skin of his back along the zipper as well as his skin seeming to turn pale. Throwing his shirt back on quickly he ran back into his room and began to dial Karyn's number in a panic.
As Karyn reached for her phone she pulled it back beneath the covers where she slept knowing why Jon was calling and yet trying to sound as if she didn't.
"Hey Jon, its kinda early, what's up?"
"Karyn! Guess what?!" Jon called sounding excited.
"Its still early in the morning Jon, what's up?" Karyn said attempting to figure out Jon's sudden excitement.
"I finally started changing, the first change is kindof weird I've heard until you get used to changing."
"Yeah, I've heard that too," Karyn said attempting to feign understanding. "I'll get dressed and be right over."
An hour later Karyn had showered and gotten ready and was about to knock on Jon's door when he opened it. As she looked him over he could tell he was excited about what had happened. He took his shirt off carefully and began to show Karyn what was happening. She smiled as she looked at the bumps around the zipper, forming ornate sequin patterns that would undoubtedly begin to become more and more apparent.
"Oh by the way Karyn take the stone and hold onto it just in case I turn into something this first time that can't hold it. If I had to guess my first change is going to be into an object of some sort. Not as exciting as some first changes but not as bad as others either. Always fun to try and figure out what the first one is." Jon said handing the rock to Karyn.
As the two of them went inside Jon phoned the school telling them what was happening and that he would be absent through his transformation. Nodding with a grin on his face he seemed rather excited. Karyn had not thought of how this could not be deemed as strange but apparently society was now some kind of changelings, able to turn their bodies as they wanted to.
"Hopefully your's starts soon too Karyn, we're both around the age for it to finally be starting."
Karyn had to nod nervously at that, wondering how a world like this could be and yet at the same time thinking she could indeed have a bit of fun with it. As Karyn began to leave Jon's house for school she smiled at him, telling him she'd be over later to check up on him.
