"Jon, what happened to the stone?" Karl asked Jen.

"My name's Jen now," she said. "And I didn't do anything. Well, I mean there was that sparkly stuff."

"What sparkly stuff?" Karl asked.

"That's why I stopped my car here. It came down out of the sky and the stone just flew out of my pocket and ..." Jen pulled the stone's box out of her pocket. "See?" She held it up, showing Karl that a there was a hole in the side of it, indicating that the stone shot right through it.

"Okay. Then what happened?" he asked.

"It flew into that sparkly stuff, then it changed color. I picked it up and made a test wish, to see if it still worked. I mean, it was pink instead of its usual color. I just wanted to know if it still worked. But it didn't. My wish didn't come true. Instead, it turned me into a girl."

"So," Karl said, putting all the pieces together. "Before you used the stone, it was pink. And after, it was blue. And before I used the stone, it was blue. And now it's pink again," he said, handing the stone to Jen, to emphasize that it was pink now.

"What are you getting at?" Jen asked, looking down at the stone.

"Isn't it obvious? If you're a boy and you use the stone when it's pink, it'll make you a girl. And if you're a girl and you use the stone when it's blue, it'll make you a boy."

"Then what happens if a girl makes a wish when the stone is pink?" Jen asked.

Suddenly, they heard laughter. A couple of kids across the street were pointing at Karl and calling him a fag.

Karl looked down at himself and noticed that he was still wearing the same clothes that he wore when he was Karyn. Apparently this colored stone only changed people's bodies, not their clothes too.

Realizing what Karl was realizing, Jen said "I wish we were wearing each other's clothes. Then maybe those kids ..." Suddenly, she had an urge to look away. When she looked back, she saw that she was wearing Karl's clothes and Karl was wearing hers. And the kids weren't laughing or teasing anymore.

"My wish was granted!" Jen said, excitedly. "But why?"

"I think that if the stone is pink, then only girls can have their wishes granted. And if the stone is blue, then only guys can have their wishes granted," Karl said, figuring it all out.
