Jon tried to make a test wish to make his car tires a different color, but it worked differently. In addition to the need to turn away, he felt a shifting in his whole body. And when he could look again, he saw that he was a girl and the stone was blue. And he didn't know how he knew, but he knew that his name was Jen now.
She looked down at the tires of her car and saw that they hadn't changed color. They were still black. How come her wish didn't get granted?
"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else," a voice suddenly said. Jen turned around and saw that it was Karyn. It seemed unlikely that her best friend would just show up like that, but she was glad that she was there. "I have a friend that dresses just like you." She turned her head slightly and looked at the yellow car. "And has a car just like that." She walked closer to it and looked inside. "Hey, this is Jon's car." She turned back towards Jen. "This car belongs to a boy named Jon. Do you know where he went?"
"Karyn, I'm Jon. I mean, I used to be," Jen said.
Karyn's eyes went wide. "What happened?" she asked. But then she figured it out. It must have been the wishing stone. She looked down at Jen's hand and saw her grasping it. Then she grabbed Jen's hand and pried it open. And without looking at it (if she had, she probably would have stopped), she said "I wish you'd tell me why you turned yourself into a girl." She figured it was the easiest way to get the truth out of her friend.
But her wish wasn't granted. Instead, she felt her body twist and shift. She looked down at the stone just in time to see it change color from blue to pink. "What the hell?" she asked, wondering why the stone was changing colors. But then her eyes went wide. Her voice was deeper. Almost like a boy's voice. She looked down at herself and saw that she was a guy! Even her wish-enhanced breasts and long blond hair were gone. And she didn't know how she knew, but she knew that her name was Karl now.
"Jon, what happened happened to the stone?" he asked Jen.
