"Sam...you know, the new guy? He only started here a few months ago."
Karyn frowned. He looked vaguely familiar, but Karyn hadn't known his name, and didn't think Jon did either. Was it another change?
They continued up the stairs. There was another floor there, but it was empty...it didn't look new, but it seemed unfinished. Even Jon noticed the unfinished nature of it, and he'd seemed a bit out of this since this all began. It seemed to be a long hall with locked doors on either side. There was no signage on anything.
"There's something weird here...familiar, yet weird," Jon said.
Karyn tried to pull on one of the doors, but noticed the door seemed almost fake. "It's like...reality is under renovation or something."
"But shouldn't it be instant?"
"I wished for one thing about myself, and you wished a tree would change color. We don't know how long it takes if you wish for something bigger...or maybe they wished it would go slow. I don't know," Karyn said.
"And we can't stop it..."
"Well, we don't know that either. Jon....I'm kind of scared I'll be the only one who remembers what's going on around here," Karyn said.
"What about me?" Jon asked.
"You only half seem to notice what's going on. I mean, you're older all of the sudden...you're a redhead, you look like you are applying for a job or something..."
"That's not right, is it?" Jon said, frowning.
Elsewhere, Zelda Whitefield was wondering why Jon had hurried off all of the sudden. He'd just grabbed a brush out of his bag, looked at it like it was a dead rat, and mumbled something about having forgotten something. "Definitely weird," she muttered. She reached for her phone and checked her calendar to see where she was supposed to be next. No point in waiting for Jon. She poked her head into where Erika and Biff were sitting. "If you two see Jon Madison...can you tell him I couldn't wait for him anymore," she said. "We'll catch up later."
"Sure," Erika said.
Biff looked up. He was still noticing things being off. And Zelda didn't seem very different, but what she was doing did. "Zelda?"
She looked at him. "Yes....um...."
"Biff," he said. "Biff Meadows." That wasn't helping. Did he really look that different?
"What is it?" She asked.
Erika jabbed him in the side gently for some reason.
