Jon's eyes opened to bright fluorescent lighting and big blue signs hanging down from the ceiling. He was in Wal-Mart. But where was Karen? He looked over to find her flipping through the video games.
"Jon-boy, head over here, I think I found what you were looking for." She handed him a game he had never heard of. It had a blue and black cover which, interestingly enough, matched the plaid tunic and crepe chiffon skirt she was wearing.
"Sorry Karen, I was looking for the newest one from Rockstar Games. I'm not sure what this is."
"Whatever, I'm going to go and check out the CDs." And she walked away.

Karen wasn't sure what she was looking for in the CD section, but did notice that it took her an longer time to get there in the suede ankle boots she was wearing. Her feet hurt a little, too, but so was the price of looking like she tried more. She glanced over and caught a stock boy looking at her, gave him a smile, and went right for the Bob Dylan rack.
She wanted to call to Jon about a remastered release of "Bringing it All Back Home," but when she looked up, he was nowhere to be found. "Typical," she thought.
"KAREN, where have you been?"
Jen's voice startled her. "You know that if we get caught in Wal-Mart, our reputations are going to fall through the basement. It's a good thing you only wanted to come here because they have great prices on CDs, and we were able to sneak in through the side door." Did Karyn come here to buy a certain CD? Wasn't she just browsing a second ago?
"We need to hurry up, I thought I saw Biff's parents. I'll go get it for you."
Karen instantly relaxed, Jen knew what she was doing.
"Here, take this. Let's get out of here."
Karyn looked down at the CD and back up at Jen. Katy Perry? Overproduced bubblegum pop that was all over the radio?
"Duh, Earth to Karyn. Don't look at me like that, you've always loved Katy Perry. Remember when we kissed during her song to get Moose all squirmy? And when we stayed up late to learn the dance moves to California Gurls? You loved her outfit in the music video, I think Diesel made her shorts."
Maybe Jen was right. Karyn couldn't remember all the details, but Jen seemed to always be right about this kind of stuff. She put down the Bob Dylan, and snuck out the side door with Jen, being very careful to remove any Wal-Mart stickers off her new CD as discretely as possible. That's when everything started to fade.
