The rest of the day came and went and Jon didn't see much of Karen, but that was fine, because tonight he'd get to the bottom of what was wrong with her once and for all.
He did see a little more Sarah, though, who looked a bit more scrubby than usual.
"I guess even the queen has off-days," he mused. "Maybe she's more normal than I thought."
Jon put it out of his mind quickly and bounded down the steps when the last bell rang.
He had bigger fish to fry tonight.
Two boss battles and a Riddler clue later, Jon's bigger fish, chipping away at Batman: Arkham Asylum, was all but cooked.
He had bought the game earlier in the week from Wal-Mart with Karen. One of his best purchases of the year.
That's when a pang of anxiety hit Jon square in the face.
"Oh no, I completely forgot about our phone call..."
He had played right through his and Karyn's usual late-night chat. Now that it was 1am, Jon risked waking up the whole Black household if he tried calling her, so he decided that it could wait -- "I guess she's mad at me, anyway."
Jon rushed to get ready for bed, laid down and mumbled, "Karyn Black," as he began to sleep.
