Jon woke up slowly. First he became aware of the fact that he was in bed, and then the fact that he'd been asleep. Then he became aware of a feeling inside of him, and he lifted open his eyes and smiled. He couldn't remember ever waking up and feeling this good. His alarm wouldn't go off for another ten minutes, but he pulled himself out of bed anyway, eager to get a head start on things.
It wasn't until he started brushing his teeth that Jon remembered that he'd tried to enter Sarah's dreams last night, but by then all conscious traces of the memories had faded. Jon didn't let it bug him, though. He must have gotten Sarah good in order to feel the way he did. He'd have to see how Sarah acted once he got to school.
Jon raced through his normal morning routine faster than he ever had before, then launched himself down the stairs and eagerly grabbed a bagel from the bread box.
"You're ready early," his surprised mother said. "What's got you so excited?"
Jon opened the fridge, but then paused, thinking about the question. "Y'know what?" he shrugged, "I have no clue." Then he grabbed the bottle of orange juice and closed the refrigerator door.
Jon poured a glass, drained it, stuck the now part-eaten bagel into his mouth, grabbed his backpack, and flew out the front door before either of his siblings had even woken up. He was so into his own sense of enthusiasm that he walked past the corner he usually met Karyn at a full half hour before normal, and didn't think to stop and wait for her.
