When Jon met up with Karyn on the way to school, she was absolutely beaming.
"What's got you so happy?" Jon asked.
"You know what? I'm not sure," Karyn answered. "I just woke up this morning and felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders."
"Which is ironic," Jon started, "because--"
"No," Karyn interrupted. "No big boob jokes. Not yet, anyway."
Jon didn't quite know how to reply. He still felt a bit guilty about the whole situation. So he just turned his face to the sidewalk and kept walking. After a few seconds he heard Karyn's voice again, but it was stumbling a bit like it was hard for her to formulate the words. "I mean, I dunno, I feel like I've come to terms with it. It's just still kind of a sore subject. Like, I don't really want to think about it." She paused again, and then surprised Jon by saying, "I don't think I'd ever try to change back with the wishing stone, even if we found a way to do it."
Jon picked up his head, looked at Karyn, and slowly said, "Okay."
"I mean, I feel like I'm not so much upset that I've got the boobs and hair, just more upset that I was dumb enough, or weak enough, or whatever enough, to make the wish in the first place."
"Sorry," Jon said.
"It's not really your fault," Karyn said. "It's just-- You know what? Let's stop talking about this."
They both turned back to the sidewalk at that point, and walked the rest of the way to school more or less in silence.
