Carla stared at the calendar one more time.
"Has it really been a year?" she thought and stared down at her withered hand. Quite hard to believe here. Yet, she knew it to be true. Letting out a deep breath, Carla took a moment to compose herself. It took a bit of work and calling a favor or three from around the nursing home, but she had gotten her hands on an engagement ring. Just one for now, it would serve her purposes nicely.
Pulling her gaze away from her old, elderly body, Carla instead looked to her doorway. Any moment now, Elizabeth was bound to make an appearance. There, she would pop the question. Heart beating a mile a minute, Carla did her best to compose herself here.
"Was there something that you wished to talk to me about, Carla dear?" Elizabeth called out and Carla stood up. Hiding the ring box behind her back, Carla only hoped that she couldn't see it from here. Even if she could, the grandmother suspected she wouldn't mind here.
"Yes, actually." Carla answered and summoned all the courage available to her here. Quite a bit here, she was honestly surprised she had this much on her. Letting out a deep breath, she opened the ring box up and got on one knee. "Ms Elizabeth, would you take this ring and make me the happiest woman around?"
Does Elizabeth say yes?
