Edward had to endure so many trials in the hospital and facing up to this new reality… she had barely had a look at herself as her numbness eventually faded. She was wearing a dress... a girly, frilly dress and no underwear. She felt… acutely worried but guessed others must have it a lot worse. She recalled her friend Damien, being completely naked and hoped they were able to help him- her.
The others were often in her mind… weird how she was thinking of them and less of herself. That seemed easier to do for the first day…Though as the days went by… she had to confront it. She had to look at herself.
She drew her attention towards her breasts… they were quite small, only about an A-cup at most if even that. She touched them a little, feeling awkward at the sensation as they felt… squishy despite their size, but at least they were not ‘too much’ of a distraction, except when her nipples pushed against her white dress. How she would even wear a bra was…. An interesting problem, given the presence of her delicate wings on her back. She guessed something customised could be made, but to make it miniaturised would be a huge challenge.
Then there was her hair… pure white as snow, she had never seen anyone with hair like it. It was soft and gentle, tickling against her shoulders. Two upswept tails defying gravity slightly as they trailed to each side…There were not many reflective surfaces here to look at her face that she could see, except for the large one way mirror. The one she knew she was being observed at like she was some kind of anomaly to be contained… maybe that wasn’t far from the truth. She decided to make her way towards the mirror, knowing her family might be on the other side watching her too.
It took a while to get to… she had yet to try flying but it might be best to try it in this room at least. She allowed her back to twitch and hover, feeling herself getting lighter off her feet. She dare not go too high just in case as she moved with the surface close towards her… yet her wings seemed to be true, and took her where she thought to be…
Soon she was at the large mirror… a strange sight… “My… eyes.”
Edward’s eyes were mismatched. One eye- her left eye appeared to be red. Not a blood red, but a calming shiny ruby colour. Her other eye appeared to be an emerald green. She blinked her eyes a few times, looking surprised at how different she looked. Her face looked very… young despite her age. She realised people might mistake her for a kid, or worse… a doll.
Edward sighed as she floated back down to the ground, crouching in the corner of the large room. Tears welled inside as she tried to fight them. she might end up wearing her little sister’s doll’s clothes. The girl inwardly shuddered at the thought. Maybe being in a government lab would actually be better. No no… she was keen on seeing her family and trying to get back to some normality.
… she wondered how everyone else was dealing with this and when they could finally get out. She wasn’t even sure how many days or weeks she was at the hospital. They had placed a sink for her to shower in, one that was normally used for ear cleaning.
A shower would help now she felt as she fluttered over towards the strangely arranged thing. There was a button to push to activate it and a trickle of clean water began to flow from the overhead pipe.
She slowly took off her white dress, easily pulling it away setting it down. It was starting to get a little dirty though the nurses had brought a number of other simple clothes for her… they all felt heavy compared to the dress she was given as part of her change.
There was some privacy placed for her, with a simple carboard wall on the side. At her size, this room was almost luxury… though going to the bathroom was a chore. The only thing they could do was set up a small toilet seat in a sink. It was literally just a small ceramic well that had been taken from a doll house, fitted to the drain.
Going to the bathroom as a fairy was humiliating, distressing and… annoying. Particularly given she was female. The whole thing lacked the normal privacy she was accustomed to. Anyone could just ‘loom’ over her at the worse possible time.
The doctors had taken her blood with the smallest of needles they had, though could only take the tiniest amounts. That felt weird to her… something about the extraction of blood weakened her more then others, making her quite tired. It was quickly realised she had an ‘allergy’ to iron and needles were a bad idea to use on her.
Edward had always loathed hospitals and more so, she loathed being this… fairy.
She just wanted to leave, She finished her business and put on her dress again, as she fluttered over to the table. It was almost dinner time… she expected to get a single grape again-
“Big brother!” A voice suddenly called out as her room opened. “Is that really you?!”
Edward gasped. It was his little sister, Carly. About seven years old, she was as exuberant as ever… and she guessed her hell was about to start. “Sis-“ She gasped as her large hands quickly grabbed her. “Hey!”
“You are so cute!” She said squeezing her. “You got tiny wings! Can you fly? I wish I could fly. Do you grant wishes?”
“Please put her down Carly,” Her mother insisted. “Hello Edward,” she said with a smile to her son. “It’s good to see you. Are you feeling okay?”
Edward was almost in tears seeing her family… They were treating her as normal… that was more then she could expect. But… “Is dad-“
“He’s just at work, but he misses you.” Her mother stated. “Don’t worry, he doesn’t hate what happened to you or anything like that. He’s been working hard to make things at home for you fixed up. He’s been building, crafting… and working out a lot of things for you.”
“Your room is really cool now,” said Carly. “I wanna sleep there.”
Edward’s room…. The fairy looked excited. “Does this mean… I can leave?”
A doctor now approached the small table where Edward stood. “Ah, Edward Sheen..” He nodded. “I am Doctor Grey. I’ve been studying your class…I can’t tell you how… interesting this week has been for me. There has been a lot of discussion on what to do with your whole class.”
“Are they okay?” Edward asked concerned.
“I cannot discuss too much due to confidentiality. However, most are… some are getting counselling; others are returning home now… you are in truth handling it far better than most.”
Edward blinked. That was not something she expected anyone to say… “Are we going back to class?”
The doctor shook his head. “I’m afraid your old school has been condemned. Parents are no longer willing to take their kids there given the ‘curse’ of that classroom… it’s been shut down,” He sighed. “I honestly have no idea what happened to you or your classmates. Though it doesn’t seem to be a disease at least.” Doctor Grey looked a little annoyed at that. He was trained to understand certain basic principles… science, everything had a cause and an effect. Yet this… this transformation stuff, had no basis for him to work on. “I have been assigned to study your situation… and a team is examining everything they can in the classroom. Though I think eventually they will want to demolish the entire school.”
Edward sighed but nodded, raising her wings a little brushing away some stray water that was clinging there. “So… what am I supposed to do now? I’m a fairy…”
“Indeed. Well, I would like to say the government isn’t interested in you… but suffice to say they have a very keen interest in what happened. Nobody likes a mystery like this. Though we have ensured your human rights still exist… as far as the law is concerned you have the same rights and privileges as anyone else under the law. In fact, there was a major backlash when it was even considered to take you away from your family…”
Edward was relieved. She had very little faith in people… but it seemed this time at least it had worked in her favour. “So.. what happens now?” she asked.
“Well, we can find no agents in your body that suggest a virus… though that doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t one given we are dealing with a compete unknown. Your group is going to be watched… I am sorry to say.” The doctor gave a very apologetic look and seemed sincere. There were things beyond his control.
Edward groaned. “Great… so I’m a prisoner in my own home as well as my body…” She glanced down at herself… she was a fairy… just an object… a toy… something for someone to hold onto and play with. “I want to find out who did this to me…”
“There are groups working on that already Edward… perhaps when you are older? In the meantime, I suggest continuing your studies.”
“Oh yes,” His mother interjected. “We have signed you up to a new school. We even put a new name.”
“A… new name?!” Edward blinked. “Wait what? How-“
“Part of the compromise we have had to reach with the government... they want to give you all new identities, though I can’t be certain why, but they are splitting up your class as much as possible. I’m sure they have their reasons but… here is your new identity paperwork.”
Splitting up? But… what about his friend Damien? That meant… starting completely fresh and new… as this? As a fairy girl?!
A large paper was placed at Edward’s feet. She walked across it, about ten steps forward like it was a game of hopscotch. She saw a picture of herself and a new name…
“Elly Sheen… my new name is Elly?!” Edward blinked.
Her mother giggled. “I know, I would have preferred Eliana, Emily, or you know if you had been born a girl, I might have called you Mariana.” She pondered in thought. “Or was it Sally... Mary… Tiffany. I had a whole number of names for you.
“Mom!” Elly groaned.
“Elly is my new big little sister!” Carly said excited. “We’re gonna play so many cool games now! You won’t be on your computer all the time, we can play with dresses! Play girl games now! You can play with my dollies as a dolly!”
Elly double groaned. This was the start of her nightmare.
