It would not be exciting if we did that though. We were going to have to do it ourselves. Paul made it clear that we would do an all-out assault on their transmission hub. I had some qualms about that. Neither Paul nor Brett had any real attachment to the members of the clan. They were simply disposable NPCs. I did not have much care for most of them either. I did not oversee the Red Grind and most of the dancers were not special to me. It was really only Maroon, Alex and Alexis that I spoke too when I was there and not in the lab with Mason. Those running the cabs were closer to me, but Sparks and Ryder were the only ones that sought me out for talking. The exceptions were Lucy and Sunny. They were simply given to me as breeding stock. Other than those 7, the others did not matter to me at all. I would make sure that they stayed back at the clan building for our final "line of defense". 03-003 and 03-004 were coming along as well. They wanted to be the ones to interface the transmission hub. While any AEP unit could interface, it was a massive drain of energy and time to do it.
To try and manipulate a hostile hub would be a massive task. One that a single AEP unit might not be able to do. To that end, I proposed that Robin and Tracie go with us as well. "Having 4 on the scene is better than only 2. It will also make it go faster." I said. When the Heat Clan members all glared at me in unison, I was a bit intimidated by that. I then got my composure back. NPCs were not going to push me around. I cleared my throat and quickly added "We can't risk the safety of 03-003 or 03-004." I did not care about them. I just met them and 03-004 was an asshole. That seemed to do it, however. With that, we were all dismissed. The PEPs from Niko and Keith's clans were pissed. they were jealous they were not being given such an important roll in the war. They were regulated to just providing extra security around the campus for the foreseeable future. That was an important job, but it was clear that was all the transmission hub thought they were capable of. They were mostly mid and low tier units after all. It was the natural way of the world. I still had some big questions to answer.
Deciding to back track for a bit, I checked for the angel. He was supposed to be fighting 04700. How did the cyborg get by him? That was something I needed to know. It would bother me if I did not answer that question. Back in the Social Work building, I found the angel pinned by glass. Shards were all in his wings and limbs. I crouched down and said "What happened? I know you have to be stronger than some alien cyborg." He looked up at me with an embarrassed face. "Sorry. He tricked me." was what he said. I just shook my head. "Figure. You really can't move?" I asked. He shook his head. I helped unpin his wings. When that was done, he grimaced. "Sorry. All of my time on the plane had long since passed. I have to go back to heaven now." he said. I just crossed my arms. "That's okay. You transported me here. That was all I needed." He looked hurt before he took to the sky. Harsh, but true. There were other pressing matters to deal with. When we got back to the base, we still had to deal with Mason's death. I was the only one that cared about that though. He was a good guy.
