"I wish to know what Sarah's plan is, the one that involves her becoming a popular girl," Jon said. But nothing happened. The stone didn't glow and the wish didn't get granted.
Karyn was silent.
"I wish to know why my last wish didn't get granted," he said. This time, the stone did glow. "Sarah put a spell in place to counteract any attempts to know what she's up to. Apparently, even the wishing stone can't break through it."
"So what can we do?"
"Well, we could always find out what's going on the old fashioned way - by asking questions. But we'll have to be discreet about it. I don't want Sarah to know what we're doing."
"Me neither. Suddenly, I have a reason to fear her," Karyn said. "Not just hate her."
Meanwhile, at the McMillan house, Sarah was talking on her phone with her "best friend" Tiffany Sanders, when suddenly she spotted something on her bookshelf. She told Tiffany that something came up and she had to cut their conversation short.
She dropped the pink cellphone on her bed, with a grunt of disgust, then walked over to the bookshelf. She reached to the back of one of the shelves and brought out a small glass ball, maybe about three-inches in diameter. It was glowing. Not very brightly, but it was enough to make her a little worried. Someone had just tried to break through one of her spells. Of course, they failed. But still, who could have the knowledge and desire to do something like this?
She reached to the back of the shelf again and grabbed a black cellphone. She smiled, remembering it as the one she used before this whole charade. She went through the call list and found Stephanie's phone number and called her.
"Sarah?" her friend asked, hesitantly.
"Yeah, it's me. We have a problem."
