"I wish I knew how Sarah could fool everyone into thinking that she had always been popular, instead of being popular only for the last two years." The stone glowed, granting his wish.
Jon's eyes went wide.
"What?" Karyn asked.
"She's a witch."
"She's a what?"
"A witch. She used some sort of spell to make everyone think that she had always been a preppy popular girl. The only people who know that she's not are her friends. Her real friends."
"And who's that?"
"Stephanie Wright and Sabrina Johnson." Stephanie was a "typical" Goth, similar to Jon's own sister Zoe, whereas Sabrina was a punk Goth - lots of piercings, lots of tattoos.
Karyn looked a little thoughtful for a moment.
"Are you starting to believe that all this might be true?" Jon asked.
"I don't know. But Stephanie, Sabrina, and Sarah all would have been Freshmen two years ago. It's possible that they could have been friends. I mean, if Sarah really was a Goth. But, come on, Jon. A spell to change everyone's memories?"
"I've got the stone, Karyn. That can change memories. Is it so hard to believe that something else could too?"
Karyn was starting to look worried. "If Sarah is a witch, then what's her plan? I mean, if she can change people's memories ... what else can she do? Or what will she do?"
"I don't know. But maybe the stone can help. I wish to know what Sarah's plan is, the one that involves her becoming a popular girl."
