"What's Sarah McMillan like?" Karyn asked, thinking of the biggest bitch in the school. Was she different?
"Sarah who?" Mallory asked.
"McMillan," Karyn said. "You know, perfect blond hair, cheerleader, huge slut."
"Wait, I think I know who you're talking about," Mallory said, "But she doesn't go to our school. Not anymore, anyway. Her mom put her in private school back in like 6th grade."
"What? Why?" asked Karyn, shocked.
"I guess it happened after the divorce--"
"Divorce!?"
Mallory lowered her eyebrows, "Well, yeah. I think it was because of all the hullabaloo that was going on when she broke her leg."
"When did Sarah McMillan break her leg?"
"Well," Mallory said a bit sheepishly, "that was kinda my fault. We were doing a soccer game in PE, and I kinda tripped her, and one of her feet got stuck in a hole we hadn't seen and... well, it was pretty bad. I'm pretty sure she still can't play any sports."
"So she's not a cheerleader?"
"I'd imagine not," said Mallory.
"So let me get this straight," Karyn said. "Sarah McMillan, because of you, isn't a cheerleader, doesn't go to our school, and has divorced parents."
"Well, I wouldn't say because of me," Mallory said.
"You're the only real thing that's different, though," Karyn said, "If Jon had been at that game, he wouldn't have tripped Sarah, she wouldn't have broken her leg, and then her parents wouldn't have gotten a divorce. Private school probably works in there somewhere, too."
"I suppose that makes sense, in a way," Mallory conceded. "This is making me uncomfortable. Let's switch topics: what's my mom like in your reality?"
