Karyn touched two fingers to each temple and calmed herself down. "Sorry. I'm sorry, I just really don't like loud music," Karyn lied a little to cover herself. "I'm okay now."
"Well," Zoe said, "can you turn it back on and just lower the volume? I really wanted to listen to it, clear my mind."
"Uh, sure," Karyn walked back to the CD player and turned it on, but twisted the volume dial down to something more 'normal.' "What is this junk, anyway?"
Zoe put the back of her hand to her forehead and pretended to faint. Mallory just said, "You've never seen Rocky Horror?"
"This is Rocky Horror?" Karyn asked, "I thought that was, like, 'let's do the time warp again.'"
"Sigh," Mallory said, turning to her sister, "The plight of virgins."
"Hey," said Zoe, sitting up straight, "it's the first week of the month. They're gonna be doing a show down at the Civic Center on Saturday." She grabbed Mallory's arm, "We've gotta take her."
"Zoe," Mallory said, "you don't even know her," then turning to Karyn, "no offense."
"Oh, come on, it's an excuse to go see Rocky Freakin' Horror!" Zoe said, "I don't care if I don't know her." Zoe paused a beat and turned to Karyn, "No offense."
Something hit Karyn right then, as Zoe said out loud the phrase 'I don't know her.' She suddenly felt emotion welling up inside of her. "I need to use the restroom," Karyn said, heading for the door. "I'll be right back."
As Karyn was closing the door behind herself, she heard Mallory say, "It's down the hallway on the right."
"I know," Karyn called back weakly, just before bursting into tears.
