"Can't you go any faster?" Karyn asked Jon, as they headed towards the edge of town.
"Karyn, the speed limit is thirty-five."
"There's a crazy girl with the most powerful item in the world that could change us in the blink of an eye ... and you're worrying about the speed limit?"
"Well, when you put it that way," he said, pushing the accelerator down more, upping the speed of the car to fifty, then fifty-five, then sixty ...
Jon cringed as soon as he heard the police siren. He looked in the rear view mirror and saw the police car. It was right behind him. He glared at Karyn. "See what you made me do?" He began to slow down.
"What are you doing?" Karyn asked. "We have to get out of town."
"But it's a cop. If we don't stop until we're outside of the stone's range, I could be looking at jail time. The police don't look too kindly on speeders who don't pull over."
"But if you stop now, we risk ourselves being affected by the wishing stone ... if Athena decides to use it on us."
Jon looked in the mirror again, then back at Karyn. What should he do? It seemed like a no-win situation. No matter what he did, he'd get burned.
