Karyn stared at Jon for a moment before finally, with tears in her eyes, she nodded. "You...you're right." she said. "I'll text everyone on the way, let's go..." she added, wiping her eyes as she got into the car.
Jon sighed with relief. He wasn't sure he could face this situation alone. It was hard enough for him to have to leave his family behind, but the thought of going on completely alone was chilling.
Jon got into the car and started it up, sighing with relief when the engine roared to life. "Alright, let's get out of here." he said, backing out of the driveway and driving as fast as he could toward the edge of town.
As he drove, he kept checking the mirrors, and looking around for any signs of anything strange. Although he knew it was possible that anything that may happen would go unnoticed by him, he was still holding onto the hope that Athena would be distracted by more immediate matters and that Karyn and himself would be able to escape.
