Jon had half-expected Leonard to be trying something else with the RAM, but he realized he hadn't heard the noise. Instead, Leonard and Sarah were just looking up at the two of them. "Uh, your mom wants to know if we're staying for dinner."

"Sarah and I were just discussing that," said Leonard. "Jon, you and I discussed earlier the 5-kilometer boundary for these reality changes. I feel that we should travel to the boundary for observations."

"Okay, but now that your mom mentioned it, I'm a little hungry," said Karyn.

Sarah held up her phone to show that she'd been researching. "You know Ed's Diner on Lake Street? It's 5 kilometers away."

"Oh, sure." Karyn readily agreed, and Jon nodded.

"Uh, who will be driving?" asked Leonard. This caused everyone to look quizzically at him. Karyn said, "I came here in the Black family car, so we might as well use it."

The four climbed the stairs, and with Leonard running interference, managed to quickly escape from his mother. Karyn headed for the blue Ford Falcon parked at the curb.

"Whoa," said Leonard.

"What?" asked Karyn.

Leonard gestured toward the license plate on the car's rear end, which had a glowing orange sphere in the middle of the numbers and proclaimed, "FIRST IN FUSION." He asked, "What happened to Lincoln?"

"He was shot in 1865," Sarah retorted, and then suggested, "Maybe you should ride shotgun in case something weird happens with this boundary thing."

There was general acclimation to that, and everyone arranged themselves accordingly, as Leonard was protesting, "Actually, I was referring to the license plate. Abraham Lincoln is supposed to be --" He stopped himself as he concentrated on getting into the car, afraid of whacking his horns against the roof of the car.

"Fusion power was invented here in Illinois," said Karyn, next to him in the left front seat. "At Northwestern. You've been to the museum on field trips, I'm sure. It's the old dorm where --"

Leonard, not fully listening, blurted out, "Oh, my God!"

"What?!" Karyn asked.
