Athena put the stone and the gemstone down on the coffee table, right next to the talisman. And when she did, all three began to glow.
"What's happening?" Jon asked.
Suddenly, a beam of light shot up from the table to the ceiling, and the image of a man came into focus.
"Dad?" Jane asked.
The man definitely looked like Jon and Zoe's grandfather, although maybe a little younger than how they remembered him.
The image of their grandfather turned his head. "Jane? Is that you? My word, what happened to you?"
"I had an accident."
"Is this some sort of recording, like in Star Wars?" Jon asked Zoe.
"It's not a recording, Jon. This really is me. As you can see, I'm not really dead. I had to fake my death to ... well, get away from some people. I gave you these three artifacts so that I could return."
"I don't understand," Jon said.
"All you have to do is wish me there while the three artifacts are glowing and I can return."
Jon wanted his grandfather back badly, but what if this was some sort of trick? He could be letting someone really dangerous into his house, someone that just wanted the artifacts all to himself. But on the other hand, if this really was his grandfather, maybe he knew of a way to get Karyn back.
He had to take the chance.
"I wish you were here," Jon said, and the entire room filled up with white light.
