Across the street at that moment, Linda Harrington was busy preparing dinner for her husband, who hadn't yet returned home. She looked at the cook book and nodded, taking a canister of spice and dumping some into the boiling pot of water.
Suddenly, what felt like a gust of wind blew past her. Her location changed, as she was now in the basement instead of the kitchen, but she didn't notice.
She looked at the spell book and nodded, taking a couple of bird's talons and tossing them into the boiling cauldron of brew. She smiled. Then looked at the book again, realizing that she was missing the last ingredient she needed to finish her potion. Fortunately, she could just get it from Jane. She lived right across the street, so she would be back in no time.
Down the road at that moment, Megan Smith was playing cards with her friends. Their husbands were out partying at a local bar (hopefully just drinking and watching the game), so it was just Megan and her three friends.
Suddenly, what felt like a gust of wind blew past her. Her location changed, as she was now in a darkened room lit only by candlelight, but she didn't notice.
She looked across the table at the man sitting there, then placed one of the tarot cards down in front of her.
"What does that mean?" the man asked.
"You will live a long life."
The man sighed in relief.
Megan put down another card. "But there is a man, a man you know well, that could change that."
"Who? Who is it?"
"Someone close to you."
The man began to get nervous, but seemed like he knew who she was talking about.
"I've gotta go," the man said, standing up.
"I'm not finished."
"I really have to go," he said, then ran out the door.
Megan shrugged her shoulders, as she put her tarot deck away. She stood up from the table and walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. "Why do they always get so upset?" she asked her reflection. "I'm only telling them the truth."
Despite the fact that most people thought she was crazy, including her own husband who left her for another woman, she enjoyed her profession as a tarot reader. She was good at it. Damn good. Her predictions always came true. She thought about taking her ability out on the road, but she didn't want to do it for the money. She really felt like she as helping people by just staying here and running her own little fortuneteller shop.
