He waited a few moments to see if anything happened. Nothing did, only some flashing.

Andrew was about to leave, when his curiosity got the better of him. He had never looked at the system, considering it part of his mom's work. He climbed into the empty charging station, to see what it looked like. It was much bigger on the inside than it appeared. You could see there was space above and behind the place where the bot was meant to go, as well as a variety of repair mechanisms, and wires.

As luck would have it, the reason the Maidbot had returned to the charging station was for the upgrade that was scheduled and in process at that moment. Now, there were safeties for humans climbing into the charging chamber. For one, there was an option outside of the chamber to disable it for servicing. But, out of concern for small children running into it, there were several other safety measures...for one, each chamber had to have an associated bot in it, and the bot had to be in the chamber any time the system was undergoing an upgrade. Except...the second Maidbot was in the lab, partially disassembled, and someone hadn't read the instruction that the chamber was to be disabled in the event a bot was no longer active.

When Andrew leaned in, he pressed against the spot where the bot placed itself to charge...where there was a pressure sensor that triggered the door to the chamber to close. That again, by itself was not an issue. But, once again...it happened to be the worst possible time for him to do so, as it coincided with the reboot of the system to complete the upgrade.

The system, booted up, detected an occupant in charging station two, and, in its initializing state, believed that it was supposed to be a Maidbot. Had Andrew been able to see the panel outside of the chamber, he'd see it noting that it was providing a fresh uniform. The machine removed his clothes and other items, sending them to recycling, and provided a fresh new uniform according to its specifications, leaving Andrew stuck in a French maid's uniform that had been chosen to ensure the androids could be identified as such....as humans didn't wear such clothing anymore.

Andrew cursed. He was not going to live this down if anyone found out.
