He moved out of the way and looked around, suddenly lost. Everyone had changed. It was safe to say Jon knew a lot of people at school. But he didn't know everyone, and he didn't know them all well. He hadn't limited his wish to people he knew. He'd said all the girls at his school. It was clear by her body language that Melissa wasn't very familiar with him anymore.
"Hey, big bro," a voice said from behind him. "You want company walking home?" He turned.
He blinked. It was Jennifer Taylor. But yesterday, she and her sister had still been twins...only with different parents....did he have twin sisters now?
"I thought for sure you'd want to walk with your girlfriend again," she said.
"I haven't seen her," he said, honestly. "Have you seen Sarah?"
"Sarah...do you mean...?"
"Jon, Jennifer...over here!" An oddly familiar shrill voice said. He swerved around and his jaw dropped. It was Sarah...not Jennifer's twin Sarah....Sarah McMillan, but she was middle aged, and wearing a business suit.
"Hi, Mom...what are you doing here?" Jennifer said.
"Well, my deposition ended early, and I figured I'd surprise you two...then we can swing by the elementary school and get your brother and go to the mall for a movie and dinner...like a family."
"Mom?" Jon said, in a tortured voice. _How had this happened? He had only wished the girls at his school would be involved. And where was his Mom? His real Mom?
