He looked around, suddenly lost. Everyone had changed. It was safe to say Jon knew a lot of people at school. But he didn't know everyone, and he didn't know them all well. He hadn't limited his wish to people he knew. He'd said all the girls at his school.
"Hey, big bro," a voice said from behind him. "You want company walking home?" He turned.
It was Kyla Leeson...well, now Kyla Madison. He'd grown used to some of the changes. Kyla was still very lightly built, but the face looked a lot more like his mom's. Her hair was tied back in a pony tail and she was wearing a JV cheerleader's uniform.
"Okay, Kyla," he said. "Umm...how was your day?"
"The squad had this meeting for a half hour with the varsity squad. Each of us is going to be adopting a grandparent from Shady Pines Retirement Village."
He paused. Cheerleaders...helping old people? "Whose idea was that?"
"The head cheerleader, of course. She's always doing stuff like that. Last month it was the senior blood drive, for the teachers and seniors over eighteen. It isn't just about the cheers. Cheer is like a family. I like helping people."
He tried not to look surprised. Cheerleaders...a force for good. This wish was taking a turn for the weird.
