"Who's there?" Jon called out.
The breathing stopped. Jon waited and waited, but the sound did not return. Eventually, the teen figured that it must have been a strange trick of the sewer's acoustics. With a shrug, he took another step towards freedom.
Suddenly, a form materialized from nowhere to stand in front of him. Jon practically screamed when he found himself staring the vampire in the face. The sickly pale creature grinned, giving him a good view of its teeth. Those teeth looked very sharp. Instinctively stepping away, the teenager tripped over something and fell back against the wall of his prison.
"Foolish boy," the vampire said in a gravelly voice. "You intruded into my lair uninvited, and you think you can escape so easily? Well, it matters little to me. I enjoy a good hunt before a meal. However, the game is over, and now I must feed."
Advancing on Jon, he grabbed him by the neck and lifted him to his feet. With his other hand, he shoved his captive's head to the side, exposing his neck. Fangs gleamed as he went for the jugular.
Jon squeezed his eyes shut, knowing his time had run out. Why did he have to make such a stupid wish?
Then, he heard a soft thud. The vampire's grip slackened. Jon opened his eyes to see a wooden stake jutting from his attacker's chest. For a second, the vampire looked down at the protrusion with a mix of shock and anger. Silently, he fell to dust.
"Jon? What are you doing here?" A voice said from the shadows behind where the vampire had stood.
From where the vampire had dropped him, Jon squinted into the darkness, trying to discern his rescuer. In response, the mystery person stepped forward. It looked like a ninja enthusiast, covered head to toe in dark clothing. The figure reached up and removed its mask.
Soon, Jon could make out the face of
