Zoe did her best impression of a jock, she wore a sports bra, running shoes, a ponytail, and mesh shorts. She had no idea what she was doing, so she did what we all do in that situation, she played her stereotype. She was going to try and be enthused about stuff and high five more often, and be intense...Jocks were intense right? She was going to walk to school like normal, but then she started jogging because she thought it made more sense. She was surprised to find that running wasn't hard, that she could go faster and longer than she normally could, and she found herself enjoying the feeling.
Suddenly someone joined her, another girl jock, they both acknowledged each other, but kept running. Then another joined, and another. Then her group merged with another group, making 8 girls in all. Zoe felt pressure to be in the lead. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing, like this was somehow normal, but to her it was extraordinary.
The school came in sight and suddenly the girls around her broke into a sprint, catching Zoe off guard. She ran as fast as she could to keep pace with them, to catch up, and found herself flying. She wanted to win, she wanted to reach the school first, but the girls around her were also fast, and she lost out, being the 4th one to make it. She felt disappointed in this.
"Dang it!" she panted as the rest of the girls tried to catch their breath.
Another girl patted her on the back, and told her "good run". Zoe noticed the one who had won was smiling as she panted and said "let me have that one finally huh?" It felt like a friendly jab, something that Zoe wasn't used to, but she didn't feel threatened by these jocks. She had been last and had beat four of them from behind, she felt she could have stood a chance and found herself retorting "I'll get you next time."
As they caught there breaths, the baseball team came over...and things got more complicated...
