"Hey, Zoe."
Zoe stopped and turned towards the voice. It was her brother Jon, with his friend Karyn. They were standing behind the treeline at the edge of the school property.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him.
"We heard about your dare," Karyn said. "It must have been tough. I know how much you hate Goths."
"Uh ... yeah."
"Was your cheerleading practice part of your dare?" Jon asked. "Because you kind of sucked."
"Uh ... yeah, it was. Listen, Jon. I'm gonna go get rid of these clothes. Tell mom I might be a little late for dinner."
"No problem," he said, then walked away with Karyn.
A nice brother? And a mom that doesn't mind me staying out? Zoe thought. There were certainly a few perks to not being a rebel.
In the distance, Zoe saw Karyn lean over to Jon and tell him something. Then they both laughed. What exactly were they constantly laughing about?
