Zoe and her two friends walked into the nearby McDonald's restaurant. They ate there a lot, much to the employees' dismay. Sometimes frequent customers weren't that helpful for business, especially if the frequent customers were Goth girls that made other customers uncomfortable.
But this time, they didn't make anyone uncomfortable.
Zoe got up to the counter and was about to make her order, when suddenly the girl behind the cash register said "Hey, Zoe. It's me. Tina. From school?"
"Uh." Zoe didn't know her.
"What are doing here?" she asked in a lower voice. "I thought you always ate healthy."
"Not tonight. I want a Big Mac and fries."
"Are you sure?" Tina asked.
"Yes, I'm sure." She was starting to get annoyed. She just wanted her burger.
"Okay." She looked past Zoe, at Athena and Zelda. "Did you want something too?"
Athena didn't, but Zelda asked for the same thing Zoe asked for.
"It'll be up soon," Tina said.
When they sat down to eat, Zoe couldn't wait to bite into that big juicy (and greasy) burger. "My mom made me eat salad for dinner," she told them. "I tried to tell her I wanted chicken, but she didn't believe me."
"What's wrong with salad?" Athena asked. She was a vegetarian, but not because she was trying to eat healthy, but because she didn't believe in eating meat.
"A lot."
Athena shrugged her shoulders and watched her two friends eat. Occasionally she grabbed a french fry. And after about ten or fifteen minutes, they were done.
On their way out, Tina bent over the front counter and waved at them. "See you tomorrow at school," she shouted in their direction.
"I don't think I can take any more of this annoying admiration," Zoe said, as they left the restaurant. "It will be good to get back to normal."
And the next day they'd get their chance.
