The doorbell rang and Zoe ran downstairs to open the door. Athena and Zelda were there, standing on her front porch.
"I'm going out!" Zoe yelled.
She wanted to leave before she got a lecture from her mom, but she didn't need to worry about that, because her mom said something she didn't expect.
"Have a good time, honey. Just don't stay out too late."
Zoe was stunned. Usually they got into a fight about her going out. Especially at 9 o'clock, which was what it was now. But her mom seemed okay with it.
"Don't look too surprised," Athena said. "My mom said the same thing."
"And so did my dad," Zelda said.
Zoe shook her head, then left with her friends. This was quite a different experience for her.
Sarah laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling, which was gray. At least one part of her room wasn't painted black. Of course, gray wasn't as nice as white, but it was better than black.
She remembered her dad telling her that she couldn't go out tonight. What was all that about? Was she supposed to be grounded or something? Sarah was never grounded. Not ever. She supposed that her parents spoiled her. But now that she had Zoe's life, it wasn't like that anymore. Not even nearly. Her dad seemed annoyed whenever she was around, her mom didn't even want to speak to her, and her sister Melony kept making weird faces at her. Her functional family had turned dysfunctional overnight!
She just wanted her life back.
And with that, she went to sleep.
