Sarah laid on her bed. The next day couldn't come fast enough.
She looked down at her black leather drawstring schoolbag. She missed her pink backpack one, the one that Zoe now had. She got off her bed and opened the bag and took her homework out. Usually she wasn't so intent on doing her homework (and sometimes she got other people to do it for her). But tonight was different. She needed something to distract her from her situation.
After her homework was done, or mostly so, she got a call from Amber. And she sounded frantic.
"Amber, what's wrong?"
"I don't feel so well. I mean, I feel sick. But it's unlike any feeling I've had before. I need to talk to Sabrina, but I don't have her number."
"I'll call Zoe."
"Thanks, Sarah."
What was all that about?
Zoe sat on her bed, looking around her room, which looked more like a room out of dollhouse than anything else. But that was about to change. Soon, she'd get the bedroom back to its old look.
She looked down at her pink backpack schoolbag. She missed her old drawstring one, the one that Sarah had now. She picked it up and unzipped it. All her homework and books were inside. Sighing, she took them out. She never cared too much about doing homework. Of course, she did do it, but she never looked forward to doing it. Except for tonight. She needed something to get her mind off her situation. Little did she know that Sarah felt the same way.
After her homework was done, she was about to call her friends to see if they wanted to go out. Even though Zoe was nearly always grounded, she usually went out anyway, despite her mom's warnings. But before she was able to make a call, her phone rang.
She looked at the ID and saw Sarah's name. "Sarah? What does she want?"
"Zoe?" Sarah asked over the phone.
"What do you want, Sarah?"
"Amber needs to call Sabrina and ask her something, but she doesn't have her number."
"Is it really that important?"
"Yes. Are you gonna give it to me, or what?"
Zoe sighed, then gave the phone number.
"Thanks," Sarah said, then hung up.
Did Sarah just thank me? Zoe thought.
