Zoe looked up at the clock during her last class of the day. School was almost over. She sure couldn't wait. She didn't know if she could take being popular much longer.
When the dismissal bell finally rang, she let out a sigh of relief. The school day was finally over. Now she could go home and be alone. But before she did that, she met up with her friends to see if they spotted anyone acting funny, just like she asked them to. But no one had. Either the person responsible for their situation wasn't at school or the person was at school and was making sure he or she wouldn't get caught. Little did she know that it was actually her own brother Jon and his friend Karyn who were pulling the strings.
At the end of the school day, Sarah met up with her friends to see if they spotted the person that might have switched them with the freaks. But none of them had. Sarah thought this was ridiculous, having to play their parts. They didn't find who was responsible today, so who's to say that they ever would? Jessica protested, but the others agreed that at least dressing like their original selves would be better than giving in to the whole freak scene. Who cared whether they were known as Goths? They had the right to change themselves, to make themselves better. Right?
So, it was agreed. The next day, with the exception of their hair and skin problems, they would dress like they normally did. But first they needed Zoe and her friends to go along with them, which Sarah thought they would certainly agree to.
Zoe and her friends began to walk home, when suddenly someone shouted to them. "Hey! Where are you going?!" They turned around and saw a black girl running towards them. It was Allison, one of the cheerleaders. "We have practice today, you dopes."
Practice? Zoe thought. Then she realized. Allison meant cheerleading practice.
"Well ... uh ... I, I mean, we don't feel ..." Zoe said, trying to get out of it.
"It doesn't matter how you feel," Allison snapped. "The game is this Friday." She grabbed Zoe's arm and pulled her back towards the school. "Come on." Zoe looked back at the other girls, just standing there. She made a look that said 'don't leave me' and her friends reluctantly went after her.
