The end of P2117 was carefully calculated by the Great Processor.
It determined that this was going to be an extinction level event. All life will come to an end.
Despite the best of efforts it was not possible to change the course of the giant meteorite heading towards the planet, despite the achievements of this incredibly advanced space faring race.
With this ‘fact’ in memory, they sought to at least preserve the many interesting plants and animals they had found. There were incredible beasts and plants within a high oxygen atmosphere… a world of great diverse organisms. There was regret; if only the planet could be saved- no doubt it would become a colony.
The aliens had long transcended cellular devision existing as a form of ‘replicative wave energy’… though they were not uninterested in biological life…
A careful scan of the planet revealed no sentient life… no tool makers and now, no chance it would ever happen. A tragedy but they could use the time left to run experiments on where the life might go? They sequenced almost the entire genome available for three solar years… creating theoretical species that may evolve naturally one day imprinted in their model systems.
With the mission the asteroid was watched. The calculation suggested a complete atmospheric destruction which will leave the world as barren and lifeless as its moon… an event that must be recorded.
It was imperative to collect the seeds of life and try to take them to another world. Small probes did their work, collecting soil samples, water, skin of the great beasts and insects.. the templates of new species must also be protected for study.
Unfortunately- one of many miscalculations happened. The asteroid picked up more speed from the great outer gas giant planets… a peculiar arrangement of a solar system that was incredibly rare. The meteorite came too soon.. which interrupted their timetable.
The Great Processor had also not anticipated the highly magnetic force of the world to impact their instruments.. another local anomaly.
A starship fell… carrying with it all the advanced equipment of their race…
…as finally the age of the dinosaurs came to and end… the ship itself ending in a semi cloaked fashion near a cave system on one of the continents while the world exploded, with a scream of beasts and the rising anger of volcanic lava, blacking out the world like a scab wound.
The machines left… knowing they did all they could.
‘Fortunately’ they had also miscalculated on the chances of the Earths survival .. and the rise of a sentient race…
The equipment on the fallen ship no doubt survived for millions of years … glitchy but possibly functional at least for a time.
