"I always wondered what it would be like to be a redhead," Karyn said. "Being Swedish, no one in my family has anything like that."
"Okay then," Jon said. "You're a redhead."
"Yeah, so? I thought you were going to try out your new power," said Karyn, now a redhead. "Why are you just stating the obvious?"
"I don't know, but that seems to be happening a lot."
"What?"
"Stating the obvious. I seem to be doing that a lot."
The moment he said that, Karyn got this look on her face, like something important had just occurred to her.
"What is it, Karyn?"
"That wish you made. Did you, by any chance, make yourself exempt from the mental changes? I mean, with the stone, if you hear your own wish, then you keep your own memories. But what about this new power you have?"
Jon's eyes went wide. She was right! He forgot to make it so that his memories wouldn't change. Was it possible that reality had changed a number of times already and he hadn't even noticed it? Everything seemed completely normal right now, but what if it wasn't? It was very entirely possible that reality was completely different, and thanks to the way he worded his wish, he wouldn't even notice. Unless ...
He grabbed the stone and said "I wish ..."
