Jon was sitting outside, mulling over what Ruby had told him about what she’d seen on the scan when Karyn appeared and interrupted his thoughts.
“Hey Jon, how was your thing?” She asked. Jon got to his feet and explained everything that went on with his examination.
“Yeah, I let them scan me too, turns out my inside bits are gone. Guess I won’t be having another period any time soon. Think I should warn your dad?” She replied as they started walking back to Jon’s house.
“Maybe give it some time, I don’t think he’d be able to handle that news” Jon chuckled.
“We’ll I can see what they mean about your butt though” Karyn laughed leaning back a bit, “it does look like it’s a bit bigger” she smirked. Jon patted himself down.
“You think? I haven’t really noticed” he said, a hint of concern in his voice, “hold on” he added holding his arm out across her as they reached a crossing. He looked both ways, then took her hand as they crossed the street. When they got to the other side he blinked a few times before letting go.
“Ummm…. Thanks” Karyn said, “but what was that for?”
“I don’t know” Jon replied, “it just happened” he added quietly. Karyn looked at him for a second, she didn’t want to admit it, but it had made her feel a bit safer crossing the road, as if she’d never done it on her own before.
‘Must be the stress of everything’ she thought to herself. They walked in silence for a bit until they reached the little convenience store near Jon’s house.
“Can we go in?” She asked, “I’m a bit thirsty”
“Yeah sure, I wanted to get this months gaming mag anyway” Jon replied. Once inside Jon went straight to the magazine stand and began looking. Karyn joined him after grabbing a drink.
“Ooh they’ve got my art magazine” she said happily as she plucked the issue from the stand. Jon found his and they headed to the checkout. Jon paid for his first, and Karyn put hers up on the counter.
“That’ll be £5.50” the clerk said. Karyn got her purse out and began to sort through her change. She blinked a few times, then looked to Jon.
“have I got enough?” she whispered. Jon smiled and took her purse. He counted out the coins for her.
“Thanks Jon” she beamed as they left and made their way back to his house.
