As it turned out, they didn't have to wait long for someone to show up. A couple of Humvee-like vehicles roared towards them from the jungle, then stopped just a few feet from them. The vehicles were covered in mud and brush from the jungle. Apparently, there were no roads for them to drive on. Maybe this island wasn't as developed as they thought.
Out of the driver's side of one of the vehicles jumped out ...
