Sarah McMillan did her usual morning routine to get dressed before going to school. Of course cheerleading practice was scheduled after school, so she needed to pack her cheerleader outfit as well.
However, when she looked in her closet for her cheerleader outfit, she was in for a surprise.
Instead of a Lake Point High School cheerleader outfit, she found a Forestville High School cheerleader outfit. Forestville High School was a school whose sports teams frequently competed against Lake Point's. In fact, their football team had a game scheduled against Lake Point's in the coming week.
What was a cheerleader outfit for a rival school doing in her closet? Sarah would have remembered if she'd stolen one as a prank or for some other reason.
"Very funny, whoever did this." Sarah grumbled, as she looked for her Lake Point High cheerleader outfit. She did not find it.
She did not even find her backup cheerleading outfit. Instead, she found another Forestville High School cheerleading outfit.
Sarah growled. She lived in a nice mansion with the best security systems. No one could have sneaked into the house and replaced her cheerleader outfits. Did it happen during that last party a few days ago? No, she remembered seeing the cheerleader outfits in her closet after that party, so it couldn't have been Biff or Melissa or Tiffany or Steve or any of the cheerleaders or jocks who were there.
This narrowed down the suspects to family and hired help. Sarah got dressed in her regular school clothes, and stormed downstairs for breakfast, determined to figure out who had played this prank on her.
As usual, her father Richard McMillan had already left. He was the CEO of McMillan Tech Industries, and these days spent a lot of his time on weekdays at the building housing the Lake Point branch of the business. And lately he had been arriving early to work.
However, her mother Susan McMillan didn't feel it necessary to go anywhere before breakfast, so she was there at the kitchen having breakfast. Sarah decided to tell her mother what had happened.
"Mom, someone snuck into my room and switched my cheerleading outfits." Sarah said.
"Switched your cheerleading outfits?" Susan asked.
"Yes. They stole my normal outfits and replaced them with Forestville High cheerleader outfits." Sarah said. "As if I'd be cheering for the wrong school."
"Wrong school?" Sarah's mother asked, confused.
"Yeah. No way I'd be cheering for Forestville High. They're, like, our biggest rivals. They're the Washington Whatevers to our Dallas Cowboys, or vice versa." Sarah said, repeating a comparison her boyfriend Biff Meadows (Lake Point's star football player and captain of the football team) had made.
"Sarah, what are you talking about?" her mother said. "Forestville High is YOUR team. You go to Forestville High."
"What?" Sarah exclaimed. "Since when?"
"For the last few years." Susan McMillan said. "Since you left Lake Point Junior High."
"Mom, this isn't funny!" Sarah protested. "I'm going to Lake Point High School. I'm the head cheerleader."
"Sarah, what's the matter?" Her mother looked at her with an air of concern. "Are you all right?"
Sarah didn't know how to answer that question. Was this some sort of prank, or was she going crazy? Once breakfast was over, should she head for Lake Point High School as if nothing was wrong?
