At first, Laura wasn't quite sure what she was looking at. It looked like some sort of metallic object. But it was hard to make it out, since it was partially hidden underneath the tissue paper. But from what she could see, it could have been jewelry of some kind. She reached down towards it and picked it up. The moment she did, an unusual and totally unexpected feeling swept through her.
She flashed a wicked smile suddenly, then said "Oh goddess, I can't wait to show this to the rest of the coven." Then she dropped the object back into the box.
Laura was appalled. It was definitely jewelry, but certainly not any kind that she would ever wear. She looked down at the necklace in the box. It was a pentagram necklace, like the ones worn by witches and devil worshipers. And speaking of witches, when she was holding it, she said something about showing it to the rest of the coven. What coven? Her coven? She was a devout Baptist. She didn't have a coven. So what exactly just happened? Why would she have said that? And more importantly, who was the person who sent this sinful object to her in the first place?
She grabbed the lid and put it back over the box, then she took the box back to her bedroom and hid it away in her closet. She'd deal with it later. A chill ran down her spine, thinking about how that thing was going to be in her closet almost the entire day. But she had no choice but to put it in there. She couldn't let her husband or daughter find it.
Laura grabbed her purse and headed out of the house. Maybe some time in a safe and familiar setting (the local Baptist church) would get her mind back into the right mindset. More than anything she wanted to forget the pentagram and the momentary witch it turned her into.
