To Laura's surprise, there was no one outside. She grew angry, thinking it was some sort of prank. The one where someone rings the doorbell, then runs away before the door opens. But then she saw the package lying on her front porch right in front of the door. Maybe it wasn't a prank after all. Maybe it was just a delivery. But who could be sending Laura a package?
She picked it up and looked at it. It was dressed up like a present. Wrapping paper and even a ribbon and bow. Stuck underneath the bow was a tag with the words: TO LAURA. It looked like it was definitely for her. But there was no indication as to whom it was from. Despite that, she shrugged and took it into her house. Maybe it was from a friend of hers from church.
She set it down on the kitchen table, then began to open it. Underneath all the wrapping paper was a plain white cardboard box, like the ones that clothing came in, when birthday and Christmas gifts come from a store.
"I wonder what it could be," she whispered to herself.
Then she opened the box.
