"Mom? Are you here? I need to talk to you. I ..." Sarah stopped dead in her tracks when she saw her mother. Or at least, she thought it was her mother. The woman certainly had her mother's face, but the rest of her ... she must have weighed at least fifty more pounds than normal.
"Oh," Susan said, burping. "Sarah, there you are. You have got to try one of these health bars. They are so yummy," she said, before plowing back into the tub of ice cream. She had already eaten all of the pasta and all of the bags of potato chips, pretzels, and cheese puffs. Bits and pieces of the chips and puffs were sprinkled about her designer top, which was now nearly bursting at the seams, given her new larger body.
"Mom, what's going on here? What happened to you?" Sarah asked, astonished.
Susan looked up, ice cream dribbling off her chin, and looked at her daughter. "What do you mean?"
"You look almost fifty pounds heavier than when I saw you this morning," Sarah explained.
Susan looked down and realized that Sarah was right. But for some reason, she didn't really care. All she cared about was finishing up her ice cream and raiding the refrigerator again for her next "snack".
At that moment, Sarah heard a toilet flush and a door opening.
"Is someone else here?" Sarah asked.
"Oh, yeah. Karyn came in. She was hungry."
Sarah turned and watched as a pudgy teenage girl walked into the kitchen. It was Karyn ... but she was obviously chubbier. Sarah just saw her at school and she didn't look like that. So what was happening?
