After walking into the house, Sarah spotted her 36-year old mother (Susan) sitting in the living room reading one of her fashion magazines. Susan was a model (who conveniently worked in town), so she liked to keep up with the trends.
She turned towards her daughter and smiled. "Hi, honey."
Sarah opened her mouth to greet her mom, but instead said in a sour tone "Yeah, whatever." Why did she say that?
"Are you okay? Did something bad happen at school?" her mom asked, suddenly concerned.
If what Sarah said before confused her, then what she said next utterly perplexed her. "It's none of your fucking business." She immediately slapped her hand over her mouth.
"Excuse me?" her mother asked, taking on a shocked but also stern tone - something Sarah rarely heard.
Sarah didn't answer. She just ran upstairs to her room, never uncovering her mouth, and then locked herself inside.
"Whatever happened must have really pissed her off," Susan muttered, as she watched her daughter flee the scene. "I've never seen her this angry before."
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. She walked to the front door and opened it.
