Lake Point High School

Jon's first class was current events, taught by Ms. Carson. "Class, today is a day commemorating several anniversaries of important world events. Tell me which two countries re-united into one country in 1983."

Zach Jones raised his hand. "That'd be Korea, whose North and South portions united four and a half years after the North Korean government fell from power."

"Correct." Ms. Carson said.

Jon was astonished. He knew that this had to be the result of someone's wish on a Wishing Coin, because the two Koreas had been two countries at odds with each other just yesterday. But now, the infamous repressive government of the North had fallen back in the late 1970s. Someone's wish had changed reality and changed history.

"On to our next subject. Earlier today, Russian president Andre Sedulov announced that he had outlawed all remainders from the communist era from holding public office in the country, and wished to establish more peaceful relations with the United States. This seemed a sudden turn, but it was not without precedent." Ms. Carson said. "With Russia allowing more independence to nations that used to be a part of it, what is now the largest country on Earth?"

"Uh, Canada?" Jon asked, guessing.

"Correct." Ms. Carson replied.

The rest of the current events class contained no world events that Jon found surprising. There were a few celebrities that Jon knew were dead yesterday announced as still doing movies, but that was about it. Otherwise, Jon's knowledge of current events was still just as good.

Jon noted how a lot of his classmates seemed particularly healthy today. Had Gladys Brewer lost some weight? No one seemed to notice, however, other than Jon.

And he knew that unless he used his new "(person) remembers" ability, no one who didn't hear certain wishes would notice the changes in reality.

"Karyn Black remembers." Jon found himself saying out loud. He then realized he'd unlocked Karyn's awareness of the changes recent wishes had made. He would have to discuss that with her later, maybe before Mrs. Williams' English class (the one class they had together in the second half of the year), or afterward, or maybe after school if there wasn't time before then.

He only hoped the rest of the day would go well, and that his fellow co-owners of the Lake Point Center for the Performing Arts were getting through the day without facing too many awkward questions.
